I was brought in to establish the central User Experience Practice including processes and standards with a heavy emphasis on improving morale, expanding staff skill sets, improving the understanding of usability and its relationship to product success across the organization as well as improving the overall design and usability of the products. 
I worked collaboratively with Product Managers to empower them to make informed decisions in planning, created UX Strategies (unified visions of what needs to be built and how it needs to be used in order for business goals to be achieved), and validate conceptual designs in preparation of sprints. I engaged with the designers and researchers when the supporting teams were identified for the sprints to give them a voice, and also ensure a more successful hand-off. Transition to West Coast + Quest for the “right position” | 06.2012 – 04.2013
I decided to move to the west coast to be closer to family, and also change the pace of my life. While the contracting and consulting work offered me different challenges and insights into different approaches and industries as well as and the opportunity to work in different regions of the country, I decided to change the pace of my life so I could pursue more balance in life.  I began this transition in July 2012 by defining requirements for a permanent position, as well as the city I would reside. Beginning in January 2013, I took on smaller projects (some of which are not worth highlighting – most content analysis activities) while I began traveling and networking to the west coast.

Hired for a systems project that lost its funding on my second day, I was reassigned to a new project as a trainer/instructional designer for the NDAR portal (which had critical usability issues).
Successes included significantly improving the relationship with the client’s client by redesigning the training program approach by using User-Centered Design methodologies, and defining a national training strategy for its roll-out.
Activities included interviewing the target audience to understand user needs, mental models, and tasks; researching, and then applying training and instructional design heuristics; and facilitating initial training sessions. I designed a Self-Guided Training Workbook structured to align to the targeted users’ tasks. Then I designed a classroom session that aligned and used the self-guided workbook. I defined a national training strategy that would include video, webcast and classroom sessions. Happily recruited away by Kadoo for more relevant work.
